Protect Your Landscape with Timely Identification of Sick Trees

If you have sick trees on your property, you may wonder what, if anything, you can do to save them. When you call Rancho Coastal, we’ll assess the damage and take the necessary steps to get to the root of the problem. If our tree healthcare experts cannot bring new life into your trees, we’ll handle the complex process of tree removal, always putting safety first.

Common Issues with Sick Trees

Here are some indications that your trees might have a disease, pest infestation, or other issues requiring immediate attention:

  • Seeping fluid: Fluid seeping from the tree and pooling around the base may indicate a condition called alcoholic or slime flux. It often leaves dark streaks on the tree bark in the spring or summer.
  • Pest infestation: If you believe that insects or other pests have taken over your tree and damaged it, our ISA-certified arborists can conduct a spot inspection to diagnose and treat the tree.
  • Gray growth: Fungus has coexisted with trees for millions of years. However, if you notice hard, gray growth or an excessive amount of fungus, we may need to remove it to protect the tree.
  • Peeling bark: Tree bark protects the inner core that keeps your tree healthy. When the bark starts to peel excessively, it may indicate you have a sick tree that isn’t getting proper nutrients.
  • Black flowers or brown leaves: If you have a flowering tree with wilted, black flowers or brown leaves during the growing season, it could indicate root rot or some other treatable conditions.

If you notice something that doesn’t look right with the trees on your property, give us a call and we’ll send one of our ISA-certified arborists to provide a tree assessment. When we can, we will save your trees and nurse them back to health. However, sometimes it’s necessary to remove trees for safety purposes or to protect the rest of your landscaping.

Safe Tree Removal

When it comes to tree removal, safety always comes first. We remove large branches in sections, using specialized saws and cutting tools. Once the major branches are out of the way, we begin to cut the trunk section by section.

Clients often ask us to remove trees that are too close to power lines, homes, or buildings. When removing trees in close proximity to structures, we use techniques to lean the tree away from power lines and your building, while sawing branches and removing them. We may even use specialized equipment to carefully lower pieces of the tree after they’ve been cut away, especially in tight quarters.

We also offer stump grinding and removal services to improve the appearance and health of your landscape.

Protective Equipment to Ensure Safety During Tree Removal

When working on your property, our technicians use the required protection gear, including:

  • Hard hat
  • Gloves
  • Sturdy, non-slip boots
  • Climbing equipment such as safety harnesses, slings, ropes, belts, and carabiners
  • Leg protection
  • Goggles or safety glasses
  • Hearing protection
